Advocacy

We’ve become established as a key anchor organisation for young people in challenging circumstances, championing inclusive music and promoting a ground-breaking approach to diversity and skills development. We advocate around the following issues:

  • Addressing under-representation of certain demographics, particularly women, BAME and disabled young people, within the cultural sector.
  • The power of music to transform young lives in a profound and meaningful way.
  • The power of culture to develop a ‘place’.
  • Youth leadership.
Youth governance

Our youth advisory group help shape our organisation. By placing young people at the centre of our governance we ensure that their voices are heard throughout our decision making.

They meet on a monthly basis facilitated by The Music Works and have an involvement of shaping our programmes, activities and strategy. They have led on creating a vision for the Gloucester Hub and have so far contributed to:

  • The development of our five-year business plan
  • The design and implementation of our Gloucester studio The Hub
  • Full organisational rebrand and redesign
  • Our new creative leadership programme
  • The design and implementation of our inclusion conference
  • Broadening the relevance and diversity of our board
